Ning Wang talks about “Single cell sequencing: a powerful approach to profile tumor microenvironment” at Advance Genetic Sequencing Virtual Conference 2021

Ning is a bioinformatics scientist at Arcus Biosciences, where he is responsible for drug discovery, target identification, and indication prioritization in multiple immune-oncology drug programs. Notably, Ning pioneered the 3D organoids based drug response prediction technology, which largely facilitated cancer model selection. During his PhD, he studied with Professor Alexander Hoffmann at UCLA, where he built up computational framework to identify synergy between key immune response signaling pathways in macrophage. Ning holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from UCLA.

Marketsandmarkets took this opportunity to pick his brains on the newfound developments in the fields of genetic sequencing and the ways this research has been of paramount importance in overcoming the challenges of the pandemic. He also discusses her own learnings in the field, their presentation at the Conference their take on the conference program.

Question: What are the recent advances in the genetic sequencing field and current challenges that need immediate attention?

Ning :

Genetic sequencing is a very broad and active field. One of the recent advances is combining multiple single cell sequencing modalities including genomics, transcriptomics and epigenetics to study tumor heterogeneity and tumor microenvironment from patients under therapeutic treatment. One of the challenges is how to accurately infer single cell genotype from single cell RNA-seq data in clinical samples

Question: What is the key take away point from your presentation topic which will help in building the knowledge base of attendees?

Ning:

  • Therapeutic resistance is one of the great challenges in cancer immunotherapy.
  • Single cell sequencing could uncover tumor heterogeneity and tumor microenvironment status.
  • Single cell sequencing could help identify new drugs targets through deep profiling of suppressive tumor microenvironment.

Ning Wang is our esteemed speaker Advanced Genetic Sequencing Virtual Conference scheduled to be held on 23-24 September 2021, he will be presenting on the Day 1 of the conference on the topic – ‘Single cell sequencing: a powerful approach to profile tumor microenvironment’
